About this course

Why it matters

One manager runs every meeting the same way whether the team is brand new or has worked together for a decade. The result is frustrated experts, dependent juniors and a leader who cannot understand why the same approach produces different outcomes.

Leadership style is a choice, not a personality trait, and the ability to diagnose people, task and context before choosing is what separates adaptable leaders from predictable ones. Managers learn the full range of styles, the research behind each and when each one helps or harms.

How it runs for your organization

Delivered as 30 hours of self-paced online content on the Blue Ocean learning platform, it fits around shift patterns and travel because participants pick it up on web or mobile whenever they have time.

Line managers across several sites can be enrolled under one corporate license, and the administrator dashboard reports enrollment, progress and completion by individual. Each style is paired with a situation the participant can test it in at work. Managers who clear the modules and assessments earn a digital, verifiable MBE credential.

Who this course is for

Supervisors and managers who lead the same people through very different situations get the most from it: a new hire, a seasoned specialist and a team in the middle of a reorganization each call for a different style. Project managers who assemble temporary teams learn to adjust approach by project phase.

Team leaders and aspiring leaders discover their default style and deliberately widen it before habits set. Professionals who lead diverse or distributed teams gain an inclusive and adaptive approach. Enrolling a whole management layer at once produces a common language, so reviews can ask which style the situation needed.

Course outline

The eight modules build a repertoire one style at a time, then teach the switching. Module one defines what a style is and the people, task and context forces that shape it. Modules two and three cover the classic Lewin climates and the transactional and transformational logics of influence.

Module four introduces the situational and contingency models used to diagnose a situation. Modules five and six add the people centered and values centered styles: coaching, mentoring, servant, authentic, ethical and inclusive. Module seven applies all of them to change, crisis and digital workplaces, and the final module helps each participant assemble a personal adaptability blueprint.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a single best leadership style the program recommends?

No, and that is the point. The contingency research covered in module four shows that no single style wins across situations, so the program teaches managers to diagnose follower readiness, the task and the wider context before choosing. The closing module then helps each person map every style they have learned and decide how to blend or toggle between them.

How does situational leadership get taught in practice?

Module four starts with the contingency premise, then walks through reading follower readiness and context, the Hersey-Blanchard model for matching style to readiness, and a wider map that includes Fiedler, path-goal and decision-style contingencies. Participants apply the diagnostics to real people on their own team, which is where the model earns its keep.

Which styles does it cover for leading during change or a crisis?

Module seven treats context as the forcing function. It covers the transformational style needed to lead change, the deliberate calm a leader must project during a crisis, and the adjustments required for digital and remote teams where presence is harder to establish. Managers leave with a clear view of which style to reach for when conditions shift.

Will participants learn about servant, authentic and inclusive leadership?

Yes, across modules five and six. Module five covers the people centered styles: leader as coach, mentor and servant. Module six covers authentic leadership as the inner foundation, ethical leadership as the moral compass and inclusive leadership as the way to build belonging, then shows how trust connects all three. Together they balance the more directive styles earlier in the program.

Can a group of managers with different default styles take it together?

That mix is an advantage. When a directive supervisor, a democratic team leader and a hands off project manager compare notes on the same module, each sees the strengths and blind spots of their own approach. The final module has every participant build an individual adaptability blueprint, so the shared cohort experience ends in a personal plan.

What format is it in, and what do participants receive at the end?

Thirty hours of self-paced online learning on the Blue Ocean learning platform, available on web and mobile with no scheduled sessions. Your administrator sees enrollment, progress and completion for every participant on the dashboard. Those who finish the modules and pass the knowledge checks and practice assessments receive a digital, verifiable MBE credential.
