About the MIS Certification

Projects rarely fail because somebody lacked a technical skill. They fail because a request was misheard, feedback was taken as an attack, a disagreement hardened into a standoff, or a capable specialist could not get colleagues to act without a line of authority over them.

The program takes those everyday moments apart and rebuilds them as learnable techniques: listening for intent, aligning words and body language, earning trust deliberately, giving feedback that lands, and holding a difficult conversation to a resolution.

What You Will Learn

  • Identify personal blind spots where intended impact and actual impact diverge
  • Listen past the words to the emotion and intent underneath them
  • Build rapport quickly and use the trust equation to repair strained relationships
  • Deliver feedback that is heard and receive it without becoming defensive
  • Prepare, open and steer a difficult conversation through to follow-through
  • State a position or say no assertively while keeping the relationship intact
  • Win buy-in from colleagues and stakeholders without formal authority
  • Sustain trust across cultures, time zones and hybrid channels and repair relationships that have lapsed

Who Is This Course For?

Interpersonal friction shows up wherever people depend on each other, so the program fits several groups at once. Team leaders and supervisors use it to give feedback and settle disputes inside the team. Account managers and other client-facing staff, along with sales professionals, rely on rapport and trust to keep accounts and close deals.

Customer service teams meet frustration daily and need composure and assertiveness in equal measure. HR and people partners handle the sensitive conversations nobody else wants, and technical specialists stepping into collaborative roles need these skills more urgently than anyone. Cross-functional cohorts work especially well, since the conversations that go wrong usually run between departments.

Course Outline

15 Modules30 hoursSelf-paced

The 15 modules mirror how a relationship is built, tested and kept. Module one explains why these skills matter more as routine work is automated. Modules two to four develop the inward foundations: self-awareness and blind spots, active listening, and the verbal and nonverbal channels of a message.

Modules five and six build outward, covering rapport, the trust equation, empathy and perspective-taking. Modules seven to ten handle pressure: giving and receiving feedback, difficult conversations, conflict resolution and assertiveness. Modules eleven and twelve cover influence without authority and networking, thirteen and fourteen address cultural difference and hybrid work, and module fifteen is about maintaining and repairing relationships.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the trust equation and how is it taught?

Module five breaks trust into components a person can act on rather than treating it as chemistry. Participants learn what builds rapport in the first minutes of a meeting, which behaviors raise or lower trust over time, and how to repair it after a missed commitment or a sharp exchange. Account managers and team leaders can apply this module immediately.

Does the program teach how to say no to a manager?

Yes, in module ten on assertiveness and boundaries. It distinguishes assertive from aggressive and passive responses, lays out four pathways for stating a position, and gives practical wording for declining a request or pushing back on a deadline without souring the relationship. The techniques are framed for use upward, sideways and with clients, not only with direct reports.

How are difficult conversations and conflict handled differently?

They get a module each because they are different problems. Module eight is about a single conversation a person has been avoiding: why it became difficult, how to prepare, how to open and steer it, and how to follow through afterward. Module nine looks at conflict as a pattern, covering its sources and types, the five conflict styles people default to, and how to find common ground when positions have hardened.

Is this useful for engineers and other technical specialists?

They are part of the intended audience. Specialists promoted for technical excellence are suddenly judged on how they brief, persuade and collaborate, and module one addresses that shift directly. The listening and nonverbal modules give concrete techniques rather than vague advice to be more approachable, which technical participants generally prefer, and the assertiveness and influence modules help them push back on unrealistic requests and win support without authority.

Does it cover remote and cross-cultural working relationships?

Yes, in modules thirteen and fourteen. The first gives frameworks for making sense of cultural difference and builds cultural intelligence as a learnable capability, with inclusive communication in practice. The second deals with what distance quietly erodes, how to choose and use channels well, and how to build trust with colleagues you rarely meet. For cohorts spread across the GCC, India and the UK, these two modules are often the most immediately relevant.

How is it delivered and what does completion earn?

The 30 hours are self-paced on the Blue Ocean learning platform, on web and mobile, so a cohort can span offices in Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt and India without anyone coordinating time zones, and a pilot cohort can run before a wider corporate license. The administrator dashboard shows enrollment, progress and completion. Each person who completes the modules, knowledge checks and practice assessments receives a digital, verifiable MBE credential from Blue Ocean Corporation.
