About this course

Why it matters

The strategy was sound, the slides were accurate and the room still did not move. Leaders lose audiences not because the content is wrong but because it arrives as information rather than meaning.

Narrative is how humans decide what to pay attention to and whom to trust, and leaders who can build one have an advantage in every vision launch, budget pitch, change announcement and crisis update. The craft can be learned: structure, emotional honesty, stakeholder mapping, data framing and delivery each have teachable rules.

How it runs for your organization

Under a corporate license, a company enrolls the leaders whose communication carries the most weight and lets them work through 30 hours of self-paced online learning on the Blue Ocean learning platform, by browser or mobile app, between the presentations they are already giving.

The administrator dashboard reports enrollment, progress and completion so L&D can see the cohort at a glance. Every technique is meant to be tried on a real message the participant has to deliver that month, and completion earns a digital, verifiable MBE credential.

Who this course is for

Executives who must carry a vision or a strategy to the whole company get the most direct return, since the modules on vision narrative, change stories and executive presence are written for them. Managers and team leaders who need people to care about a target rather than merely know it learn structure and emotional honesty.

Project managers use storyselling and stakeholder mapping to win support for work that crosses departments. HR professionals apply it to culture and values communication, and consultants to turning analysis into a case a client will act on. A mixed cohort works because every participant brings a different real message to practice on.

Course outline

Eight modules take the participant from why stories work to standing in front of a room. Module one covers the neuroscience of narrative and the ways leadership storytelling fails. Module two is the construction kit: structure, emotion and authenticity. Modules three and four apply the craft upward and outward, to vision and change and then to storyselling and stakeholder alignment.

Module five handles data and visual storytelling for leaders who present numbers. Module six covers crisis and change communication. Module seven moves to digital channels and AI as a co-author, and module eight finishes with public speaking and leadership presence.

Frequently asked questions

Is this about presentation skills or something broader?

Broader. Presentation delivery is module eight, the last of the eight. Before that, participants learn why narrative changes behavior, how to construct a story that holds together, how to tell a vision or change story, how to sell an idea to stakeholders, how to make data persuasive and how to communicate in a crisis. Delivery matters, but structure comes first.

What does storyselling mean in this context?

Module four uses it for the moment a story has to win a decision rather than just engage an audience. Participants map the stakeholder field, identify the influence currencies each stakeholder responds to, and build a pitch that connects the narrative to what those people value. It is the module project managers and consultants tend to use first.

Can finance and analytics leaders use it for data presentations?

Module five was written for them. It explains why data needs a story, how to start the analysis from the decision the audience has to make, how to design visuals that carry a single message, and how to keep integrity when framing numbers persuasively. The spoken data story, the briefing rather than the chart, gets its own treatment.

How does it help leaders communicate during a crisis or restructuring?

Module six explains why stories steady people when conditions are frightening, then works through building the crisis message, telling the change story and sustaining the narrative over the weeks that follow. Executives who have had to announce bad news with nothing but a bullet list will recognize why this module exists.

Does it cover AI tools and digital channels for leaders' communication?

Module seven covers how digital reshaped the leadership narrative, how to adapt a story across formats, platforms and cadence, how to use AI as a co-author in the storytelling workflow, and how to protect authenticity, voice and ethics when generated content is cheap and abundant. Leaders active on internal platforms and external social channels get practical guidance.

What does the credential look like and how do we track completion?

Participants who complete the eight modules and pass the knowledge checks and practice assessments receive a digital, verifiable MBE credential they can display on a professional profile. On the company side, the administrator dashboard on the Blue Ocean learning platform shows enrollment, progress and completion for every participant across the 30 self-paced hours.
