About the FLS Certification

Promotion logic says a leader's job is to climb; contribution logic says it is to create value for others. Teams can tell the difference, and engagement follows. The program gives managers a way to make the second logic operational.

They clarify purpose and strengths, map their current leadership profile on a canvas, apply the four acts of eliminate, reduce, raise and create to it, and connect their team's daily work to meaning and motivation. The result is leadership energy spent where it changes performance, not where it protects position.

What You Will Learn

  • Recognize when promotion logic is driving leadership behavior and what it costs the team
  • Articulate a leadership purpose where meaning, mission and contribution intersect
  • Use core values as a decision filter under trade-offs and uncertainty
  • Diagnose leadership with the four acts and draw an as-is and to-be leadership canvas
  • Connect team work to autonomy, mastery and purpose so motivation is built in
  • Clear the cognitive, resource and motivational hurdles that stall change
  • Run fair process with engagement, explanation and expectation clarity so people own decisions
  • Map and prioritize stakeholders and build a purpose-led leadership operating system

Who Is This Course For?

The program is a fit for organizations whose engagement data says people are present but not invested. Senior managers who set the leadership tone use it to examine where their own time and energy go and what the four acts would change. Managers and supervisors who inherited a command style learn a method for leading through contribution instead.

Emerging leaders build a purpose-led identity before title and status start to shape it. Entrepreneurs leading growing teams find the leadership canvas a fast way to see what their people experience. Running it across a full management layer makes the as-is and to-be profiles comparable and the culture conversation concrete.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the leadership canvas and how do managers use it?

The leadership canvas, introduced in module three and developed in module eight, is a visual profile of the acts a leader actually spends time on, as experienced by the people they lead. Managers map the cold reality first, the as-is canvas, then design an aspirational to-be profile and read the gap between them. It turns leadership from a set of traits into visible, changeable behavior.

What are the four leadership acts?

Eliminate, reduce, raise and create. Module seven reframes leadership from traits to acts and asks managers to diagnose, at three levels of the organization, which activities they should stop, do less of, do more of and start. The grid that results is a practical reallocation of leadership time and energy, and it becomes the basis for the to-be canvas in module eight.

Is purpose-led leadership compatible with hard commercial targets?

Module nine addresses this through value innovation: creating more value without the usual trade-off against resources, and applying that thinking to people as well as markets. It treats purpose as a strategic foundation that aligns profit and purpose rather than opposing them, and module six makes the business case for purpose-driven decisions under real trade-offs and uncertainty.

How does the program change what a manager does with their team on Monday?

Module ten is the most immediately applicable. It treats engagement as the leader's problem rather than HR's, explains what actually motivates people, autonomy, mastery and purpose, and shows how to give every role a line of sight from its work to something that matters. Strengths, recognition and ownership round it out. Managers leave with specific conversations to have, not a poster to hang.

What does the program mean by fair process?

Module twelve argues that whether people commit to a decision depends on how it was made, not only on its outcome. Fair process rests on three elements, engagement, explanation and expectation clarity, and the module shows how to design decisions people will own and how to diagnose and repair fairness failures when pressure has shortcut the process. For managers leading change, it is the difference between compliance and commitment.

How does an organization roll it out and confirm completion?

The rollout runs under a corporate license on the Blue Ocean learning platform. A cohort is enrolled, each manager studies the 30 hours of self-paced content on web or mobile, and the administrator dashboard reports enrollment, progress and completion to HR. Those who finish the modules, including the 90-day capstone, knowledge checks and practice assessments receive a digital, verifiable MBE credential, and a pilot cohort can run before the license is extended.
